Bangladesh Recovers Over 87,700 Litres of Fuel Oil in One Day Amid Nationwide Anti-Hoarding Drives

The Bangladesh government has intensified nationwide operations against illegal fuel hoarding. In a single day, authorities recovered a total of 87,700 litres of fuel oil, bringing the cumulative recovery to 296,305 litres so far.

According to the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, 3,559 drives were conducted across all 64 districts between March 3 and March 30.

On Monday (March 30), 391 drives were carried out, resulting in 191 cases filed and fines totaling Tk 935,070. Three individuals were sentenced to imprisonment — one each in Satkhira, Gazipur, and Chandpur.

During these operations, officials seized 67,400 litres of diesel, 6,444 litres of octane, and 13,856 litres of petrol.

Rewards for Information The Energy and Mineral Resources Division has announced a Tk 100,000 reward for credible information leading to the detection of illegal hoarding and smuggling of fuel.

Monthly Update So far this month, authorities have filed 1,244 cases, realized fines worth Tk 8,451,000, and sent 19 people to jail. In total, 207,365 litres of diesel, 28,938 litres of octane, and 60,002 litres of petrol have been recovered.

Current Fuel Stock As of now, the country holds:

  • 128,939 tonnes of diesel
  • 7,940 tonnes of octane
  • 11,431 tonnes of petrol
  • 44,609 tonnes of jet fuel

A tanker carrying 27,300 tonnes of diesel from Malaysia is scheduled to arrive at Chittagong Port shortly.

The government stated that fuel supply remains normal due to regular imports and unloading. There is currently no major crisis, though drives against hoarding and abnormal market demand have been strengthened.
